Accelerated AWS Cloud Migration Allowed the Customer to Close its Data Center in Just 5 Months and Save 30% Operations Costs

The customer is a global leader in gases, technologies, and services for industries. They enable their clients to constantly innovate and focus on core business objectives while reducing their environmental footprint. The customer was looking to migrate from their on-premises data center to AWS cloud for high scalability and performance.

The Challenge

The customer approached Blazeclan with the requirement to perform thorough assessment of their existing infrastructure and applications. They wanted to migrate 200 servers from their current Data Centre to AWS.

The Solution

The customer partnered with Blazeclan with the directive to decommission their data center and migrate to AWS cloud. The key challenge was to complete the migration while adhering to the customer’s stringent timeline. Creating a landing zone compatible with the customer’s global cloud architecture was necessary. Blazeclan conducted a detailed assessment of the customer’s infrastructure and came up with an accurate plan focused on lift and shift migration.

The optimization of the infrastructure and application was planned to be carried out after completing the migration. Key applications that had certain restriction and were unable to be migrated with lift and shift were identified. These applications, namely, Oracle E-Business Suite, Hyperion, and other Oracle application suites, were hosted on the new cloud environment through redeployment. The rest of the applications were migrated to the cloud using AWS Server Migration and AWS CloudEndure Migration services.

Migration of the oracle applications was carried out in parallel to the transition of the rest of the applications. This saved significant time while ensuring minimum interaction between the on-premises and AWS cloud environments. The whole migration process was complete in just 4 and a half months. This included moving 4 large databases as well, each consisting data of more than 1 TB.
