About Customer
Coverseal a leading innovator in the swimming pool cover industry, holds a unique position due to its patented technology. It is a specialized company known for its innovative and high-quality pool covers that prioritize safety, performance, and aesthetics.
Coverseal pool covers are designed to comply with rigorous safety standards, capable of supporting significant weight, making them particularly safe for children and pets. These covers also help maintain water cleanliness by preventing debris from entering the pool and reducing algae growth, which in turn minimizes the need for chemical treatments. Additionally, the covers provide excellent insulation, reducing water evaporation and retaining heat, which can lead to energy savings.
Manufactured in Belgium, Coverseal have a significant market share across Europe, Israel and the United States of America. The products are customizable to fit various pool sizes and shapes, ensuring a perfect blend with the surrounding environment.
Objective
Coverseal aimed to achieve two critical goals:
- Scalable and Secure Marketing Infrastructure: To support the increasing demand from marketing campaigns and website/application traffic without compromising on performance or security.
- Data Culture and Analytics Enhancement: The implementation of data lake that integrates multiple data sources and layers, providing them data-driven decision-making across the organization.
Solution
Scalable and Resilient Website Infrastructure
Cybersecurity and Governance
- Landing Zone Setup: A multi-account AWS environment was established using AWS Landing Zone, which enabled secure and scalable governance. This setup provided a foundation for Coverseal’s expanding digital footprint, ensuring compliance with industry regulations.
- SSL/TLS Encryption: AWS Certificate Manager (ACM) was utilized to manage SSL/TLS certificates, ensuring secure communication between end-users and the website.
- Amazon Web Application Firewall (WAF): To protect against common web exploits, AWS WAF was configured to filter and monitor HTTP requests, shielding the website from potential threats and attacks.
- AWS CloudWatch and AWS CloudTrail: These services were deployed for continuous monitoring and logging, enabling real-time performance tracking and security auditing.
Â
Website Hosting and Deployment
- Amazon EC2 with Docker: Multiple websites and one application were deployed to AWS and hosted on Amazon EC2 instances. The use of Docker containers ensured consistent, isolated environments across different deployment stages, making the infrastructure both scalable and portable.
- AWS Application Load Balancer (ALB): ALB was implemented to distribute incoming traffic efficiently across the EC2 instances, providing high availability and fault tolerance. This setup ensured that the website could handle traffic spikes, particularly during large-scale marketing campaigns such as TV ads.
- Amazon Route 53: AWS’s Route 53 service was used for DNS management, ensuring reliable routing of end-user requests to the appropriate application endpoints.
Data Lake Implementation and Data ManagementÂ
Data Collection and Storage
- AWS S3 for Data Storage: A data lake was established using Amazon S3, which served as the central repository for all of Coverseal’s data. This included data ingestion from APIs from inhouse and 3rd party applications handled by AWS Lambda functions that automated the daily extraction and loading of data.
- Data Ingestion and ELT Process: AWS Glue was employed for the ELT (Extract, Load, Transform) processes, which transformed raw data into a structured format suitable for analysis. AWS Glue Crawlers were used to automatically catalog the ingested data, making it easily searchable and accessible.
Data Processing and Analytics
- Amazon Athena: For querying and analyzing the data stored in S3, Amazon Athena was set up. This serverless service allowed Coverseal to run SQL queries on their data without the need for complex infrastructure management.
- Tableau for Data Visualization: Blazeclan integrated Tableau with AWS to provide Coverseal with advanced data visualization capabilities. This allowed for the creation of interactive dashboards that aggregated data from various sources, enabling real-time insights into production and sales metrics.
- Future-Proofing with Data Storage: The data lake architecture was designed to store both raw and processed data, ensuring that Coverseal could leverage this information for future advanced analytics, including potential AI applications.
Results
Significant Increase in Website Traffic and Robustness
- The migration to AWS led to a positive increase in website traffic by up to 350% with zero downtime over the past 24 months. This demonstrated the scalability and resilience of the new infrastructure. The robust security measures, including AWS WAF and SSL/TLS encryption, effectively mitigated cyber threats, ensuring continuous availability and reliability of the website.
- The ability to scale the website infrastructure seamlessly allowed Coverseal to support large-scale marketing campaigns without the risk of downtime or performance degradation.
Transformation to a Data-Driven Organization
- The implementation of the data lake allowed Coverseal to integrate and analyze data from multiple sources efficiently. With data visualization tools like Tableau, the company could now monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) across business units, enabling proactive decision-making.
- The centralized data repository has paved the way for future advancements, such as the integration of AI-driven analytics, providing Coverseal with a competitive edge in the market.
